43 Bryants Street 10th October 1808 Rev Sir, Having communicated to the Revd Basil Woodd, my inclination to offer myself to the consideration of the Committee of the Society for Missions to Africa and the East, provided I can learn that I am calculated to render them any assistance, in preparing the way for the introduction of the Gospel into one of the Islands of New Zealand; and, having been directed by him to apply to you in his name, should I wish to consult farther about the Business before he comes to Town which will be in November, I therefore take the liberty to request an interview with you when it is convenient; in order that we may converse upon the subject.
