Church Missionary House, Salisbury Square, Fleet Street, April 1st. 1819 Sir, I am directed by the Committee of the Church Missionary Society to request that you will have the Goodness to state to the Hon. the Commissioners of the Navy Board, that the Committee have received a coil of Rope made at Parramatta (New South Wales) from New Zealand flax; and another could, of the same kind of Rope, used on board H. M. S. the Kangaroo, during her voyage home, and reported of very highly by her Commander, Lieut. Jeffries. If the Board would be pleased to direct that these Ropes should be subjected to trial, the Committee will send them to the order of the Board. From the statements made to the Committee they cannot but hope that the use of Rope of this nature, may be the occasion of promoting cultivation and industry in New Zealand. I have the honour to be, Sir, Your faithful Servant, (signed) Josiah Pratt R. A. Nelson, Esqr. Secretary of the Navy Board
