The Rev Samuel Marsden having mentioned to the Committee
Robert Williams, a convict, as a man now of good character, and likely to do good service in instructing the Natives of New Zealand in rope making, if any mitigation of his sentence could be granted, I am directed by the Committee of the Church Missionary Society very respectfully to solicit the kind consideration of your Excellency on the subject; and, at the same time to express their sincere obligations for the aid which your Excellency has been pleased to render in various ways to the endeavours of the Society.
