Copy London 22 March 1813 Dear Sir/ In my capacity of president of the Church Missionary Society I am desired by the Committee for conducting its concerns to request your acceptance of three volumes, containing the proceedings of the Society from its first institution and a copy of an interesting work of Doctor Buchanan. I beg leave at the same time to recommend to your Protection & Kindness, Mr. Thomas Kendall and his Family, who embark on Board the Earl Spencer for New South Wales, and also Mr William Hall and Mr John King who have been resident there some time. These Persons are all sent out by the Society, with the ultimate Purpose of selecting among the New Zealanders fit Persons to promote their Civilization and to spread the blessed truths of the Christian Religion among them; to which design, in the name of the Committee as well as my own, I most earnestly solicit your friendly attention and good offices, and that you will accept our best thanks for the kind assistance which you have been so good as to afford to this glorious cause, I am, Dear Sir, with great esteem and regard Your faithful And most humble Servant (Signed) Gambier Govr Macquarrie [sic] &c &c &c
